Writing Offerings

Services

I am currently offering a variety of opportunities to writers: group workshops, individual mentoring/coaching, and full manuscript developmental editing. I can customize to a variety of budgets and needs.

Watch this space for future writing retreat opportunities for both groups and individuals at my home in the Scottish Highlands (see my blog posts for photos of this gorgeous place).

Group Workshops

Grackle and Grackle--check their website here for offerings (rates vary per class). Or inquire about a customized workshop for your reading or writing group.

"If you're looking for a purposeful and creative way to spend a Saturday afternoon, look no further than Georgina Key's Lyrical Prose workshop. Here you will read stimulating prose together, write your won prose in response to writing prompts, music, and art, and bask in the glow of a warm and congenial atmosphere populated by other budding and experienced writers. Even though this workshop was on Zoom, the shared creative space that Georgina skillfully facilitated offered a rich and fertile soil for letting our imaginations run wild on paper. Highly recommend." Meenakshi

Individual Coaching Sessions (working manuscript)

(Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly options). I customize my approach for each writer according to their needs and budget. I will line-read your submission and then provide detailed written feedback that we will discuss one-on-one in person or virtually. $100/hour.

"Georgina has processes for coaxing the seemingly elusive: creativity! Using a range of techniques, she soon has her writers putting words to paper and feeling thoroughly engaged in the possibilities. She has a warmth and passion for writing combined with a strong sense of quality that gives students the confidence to keep working and refining. Georgina is skillful at leading group classes with sensitivity and respect, creating a safe environment for participants to share. I highly recommend her classes for both the experienced and beginning writer." Aralee
"It's been so helpful to have early feedback on sections of my new project, and I've thoroughly enjoyed stretching my writing muscles with your readings and prompts." Elise

Individual Developmental Editing

This is a full assessment of a completed first draft of a manuscript. I provide in-text notes along with written feedback offering suggestions for revision. Also included is a one-hour discussion of the written feedback. Fees: $100/hr (e.g. 80,000 words=approximately 30-40 hours depending on complexity and individual needs.)

"I couldn't see my novel finished before. Now I can. Big thumbs up." Mike

BIG NEWS!

Guess What?! Is this entry book-related? Yes, sort of. But most importantly, it's a life-changing moment for me. I've finally achieved a decades-long dream of moving back to the UK!  Those of you who follow me on social media will have seen posts about my new adventures in bonnie Scotland where we recently bought an historic 1832 stone schoolhouse. It's on the edge of the Cairngorms in a remote part of the highlands, and I sit outside my house each day staring at the braes in awe of their stunning beauty. This is the place my family are from. My grandfather was an Anderson and had that soft Scots burr that I find so beautiful. Mum went to boarding school here while her parents worked in Brasil, and she still has a visceral love of Scotland (bagpipes make her cry). She always shared stories of her life which I believe imprinted that love of Scotland onto me over the years. When I spent time here two summers ago, I was walking along Rosemarkie beach and turned a corner to a s...

Dreamy landscape right outside my front door

I thought I'd share some outdoor pics with you first as that's what initially drew me to this stunning part of the country. Although I grew up in England and have spent a large potion of my life in the US, I decided on Scotland as my new home for several reasons. I knew I wanted to move back to my roots, and Scotland is where my mother and her family are from. Another priority for me was climate. Texas is not my ideal climate--I relish cold weather and gray days. Yes, I even enjoy rainy weather. And I want seasons. So here I am... Check back or subscribe to get a peek inside...

Hurricane Ghost Story (Expanded)

When people ask me what my latest novel,  Syllables of the Briny World, is about, I tell them it's a hurricane ghost story. But it's not just a ghost story... Hurricane Ghost Story Video
