Syllables of the Briny World, Release April 2024

This day fifteen years ago, we lost our beloved little yellow house by the sea--skeletal pylons were all that remained.

On September 13th, 2008, Hurricane Ike decimated Bolivar Peninsula, a remote rural community on the Texas Gulf Coast that would never be quite the same again.

My latest book, Syllables of the Briny World, is an homage to this extraordinary place and to all those who suffered loss that day. It is a book of hope and resilience against the wrath of mother nature.

You needn't have read Shiny Bits In Between to appreciate this story. But if you have, you'll already know the characters in this followup novel which picks up four years later as residents face this catastrophic storm.

Guess What?! Is this entry book-related? Yes, sort of. But most importantly, it's a life-changing moment for me. I've finally achieved a decades-long dream of moving back to the UK! Those of you who follow me on social media will have seen posts about my new adventures in bonnie Scotland where we recently bought an historic 1832 stone schoolhouse. It's on the edge of the Cairngorms in a remote part of the highlands, and I sit outside my house each day staring at the braes in awe of their stunning beauty. This is the place my family are from. My grandfather was an Anderson and had that soft Scots burr that I find so beautiful. Mum went to boarding school here while her parents worked in Brasil, and she still has a visceral love of Scotland (bagpipes make her cry). She always shared stories of her life which I believe imprinted that love of Scotland onto me over the years. I thought I'd share some outdoor pics with you first as that's what initially drew me to this stunning part of the country. Although I grew up in England and have spent a large potion of my life in the US, I decided on Scotland as my new home for several reasons. I knew I wanted to move back to my roots, and Scotland is where my mother and her family are from. Another priority for me was climate.
